- · Monitors business papers and magazines for news and issues affecting 15 ECOWAS member states as it relates to the vision of “Africa in Focus”(AIF)
- · Uses internet to monitor developments in ECOWAS, including Mauritania; and ECOWAS’ associated and affiliated institutions
- · Suggests topical issues relative to West Africa for consideration by AIF weekly show
- · Sit on Editorial Committee of “East Africa Rising” newsletter
- · Attends meetings and conferences on behalf of AIF’s Research & Communications Unit
- · Populates a regular database of contacts from ECOWAS institutions
- · Provides regular updates of meetings attended, and contacts obtained to weekly meetings
- · Assists in report-writing of weekly meetings of the Unit

PRIMARY

- · Monitors business papers and magazines for news and issues affecting East African Community member states (Kenya; Rwanda; Burundi; Uganda; Tanzania; South Sudan), and 15 ECOWAS member states as it relates to the vision of “Africa in Focus”(AIF)
- · Uses internet to monitor developments in East Africa, including Ethiopia; EAC and its associated and affiliated institutions
- · Suggests topical issues relative to East Africa for consideration by AIF weekly show
- · Sit on Editorial Committee of “East Africa Rising” newsletter
- · Attends meetings and conferences on behalf of AIF’s Research & Communications Unit
- · Populates a regular database of contacts from EAC institutions
- · Provides regular updates of meetings attended, and contacts obtained to weekly meetings
- · Assists in report-writing of weekly meetings of the Unit

PRIMARY
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Interview
discussants for the “Africa in Focus” show
- Write
at least two articles from the live-show
- build
contacts to maintain a flow of news from a variety of organisations, the
general public, etc;
- seek
out and investigate stories via AIF’s contacts, press releases and other
media;
- attend
press conferences and ask questions;
- serve
as a member of the Research & Communications Unit;
- record
interviews and meetings using shorthand or technical equipment;
- create
and upload news content for the AIF’s blog; website; and social media
outlets

of the Unit

Assist occasionally in the production of the

ROLE

The Research & Communications Unit (ReComm) meets every week,

progress on the direction of the research component of the "Africa
in Focus" show;

& evaluate the state of communication instruments (facebook;
twitter; google plus community);
·
Evaluate
how far weekly activities are contributing to enriching the Unit's
monitoring of African integration dynamics of ECOWAS; the AU; and Africa's
engagement with members of the Global South.
Finally, the meetings seek to
undertake innovative strategies to further-educate the public on Africa's
development

POSITION TITLE: PROGRAMME ASSISTANT – PERSONAL ASSISTANT
REPORTS TO: HEAD OF RESEARCH & COMMUNICATIONSworks closely with managerial or directorial staff to provide administrative support, usually on a one-to-one basis.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
COMMUNICATIONS:
• Liaise with guests for the AIF show
• Populate blogs regularly with stories
• Manage twitter account
• Manage AIF email account
ADMINISTRATION:
• Create and populate database of guests who attend AIF show
• Write, and thank guests after the show
• Take pictures of studio guests for the AIF show
• devise and maintain office systems, including data management and filing;
• arrange travel, visas and accommodation and, occasionally, travel with the Head of Research & Communications to take notes or dictation at meetings or to provide general assistance during presentations;
• screen phone calls, enquiries and requests, and handle them when appropriate;
• meet and greet visitors at all levels of seniority;
• organise and maintain diaries and make appointments;
• deal with incoming email, often corresponding on behalf of the manager;
• take dictation and minutes;
• carry out background research and present findings;
• produce documents, briefing papers, reports and presentations;
• organise and attend meetings and ensure the manager is well prepared for meetings;
• Liaise with clients, suppliers and other staff.
• Assists in report-writing of weekly meetings of the Unit
• Attend meetings of the Resource Mobilization Committee
