"Africa in Focus" (AIF) is a brand-new one-hour discussion show on award-winning Radio XYZ93.1FM. It is dedicated to telling Africa's story by educating and informing listeners on developments around manifold sectors in ECOWAS member states; the African Union and its institutions; and the AU's relationship with the Global South, including the BRIC countries.
It is the only show on Ghanaian radio that seeks to shed light on untold stories of the manifold personalities; and institutions populating the African continent, as well as what the African private sector is doing to contribute to Africa's equitable growth.
THE MAIDEN EDITION -- 6 MAY, 2014 @ 14h00
The first edition of the "Africa in Focus" show on Tuesday 6 May at 14h00 is called "EPAs and Matters Arising".
There will be three(3) guests at the studio, and one(1) on the line from Nigeria:
*Kingsley Osei-Nkansah of the Economic Justice Network, and General Agricultural Worker's Union
*Franklin Cudjoe of think-tank IMANI, who is an ardent advocate of Ghana signing the EPAs.
*Frank Ofei -- a former ECOWAS official during 1980s and 1990s, with experience on
the revision of the 1975 ECOWAS Treaty, establishment of the ECOWAS single currency, coordination of implementation of NEPAD in West Africa, private sector participation in the West African integration process, ECOWAS relations with the African Union particularly concerning the implementation of the African Economic Community (AEC) treaty, and ECOWAS negotiation of economic arrangements with other third parties (the European Union, World Bank, IMF, African Development Bank, etc
*Janet Faden -- a freelance Online journalist based in Jos, Nigeria, who practices under her media enterprise called JfadenMultimedia. She produces online multimedia contents for media houses and organisations providing site management consultancy; and training/workshops on New Media and TV Production. Her news website Plateau News Online has almost 13,000 loyal readers on facebook fan page making it one of the leading independent news portal in the middle belt region of Nigeria.
ABOUT THE HOST
Hosted by Emmanuel.K.Bensah Jr, who serves also as Head of Research & Communications of the AIF team, Emmanuel is the immediate-past Communications Officer & Web Manager of a research and advocacy organization called Third World Network-Africa, where he worked for almost 10 years.
Prior to TWN-Africa, he was living and working in Brussels, where he worked with small staff, and therefore handled a number of tasks, including: researching and writing reports of conferences for meetings of Brussels-based networks like the European Trade Network.
In 2011, he spent a month working in Addis Ababa as Web & PR Strategy Consultant for the Institute of Peace and Security Studies' Africa Peace and Security Programme. Some of his work included developing a communications strategy for the Institute.
Emmanuel holds an M.A. in International Politics from the Brussels-based Centre Européen de Recherches Internationales et Stratégiques (CERIS), and holds certificates from the United Nations Institute for Training and Research(UNITAR) on Regional Integration & Trade (2011); “Assessing Regional Integration in Africa: “Towards an African Continental Free Trade Area”(2012); and Trade Dimension in UN Development Assistance Frameworks(UNDAFS)(2013).
Since 2011, Emmanuel has been writing a column entitled “Accidental ECOWAS and AU Citizen” for the Business&Financial Times Paper here in Accra.
